Just watched The Signal-Man for, oh, the first time in ten years. Creepy stuff.

In a change to the usual 'way of things' I won't be doing a poll on the individual episodes of Torchwood this week. By all means start off a
discussion thread, but as it is told over five nights and has an overall storyline, I shall not be posting a poll until after 10pm Friday...

Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow finished on Saturday, and I enjoyed it very much. Then caught the 2nd half of Sean Lock on C4, and he was good as well,
even if I had seen much of the material during his run-in on Comedy Roadshow a few weeks back. Though he did have a great visual gag to end on.

Been mostly watching Jeeves and Wooster. Also watched Blueberry: a supernatural, science-fiction western featuring Eddie Izzard and Michael
Madsen. :-P

Been enjoying the Open Golf, as usual

Golf - like snooker - is more fun to play than to watch, I feel.

Dead right
Also saw Lee Evans show on C4 on Saturday night, and Dara O'Briain on BBC2 on Sunday night. The Irishman was funnier |

Is anyone watching 'The Kevin Bishop Show' because Ms Gillan is a regular stooge on there? Sadly, Bishop is too in thrall to Harry Enfield, which
whilst not automatically a bad thing, does leave you thinking "is that it?"

I haven't been, but I might give it a whirl next week, see the new girl in action.

BBC2 kindly repeated the Brian Blessed episode of HIGNFY last week, with typical fanfare, i.e. none at all. The Bill Bailey ep last night was okay, but I felt
like parts of it were unfamiliar and yet other bits I'd seen tons of times: "Not all barn owls are called Mr Peters."

That's BRIAN BLESSED, Simon. ;-)
Which, incidentally, reminds me: I got I, Clavdivs on DVD. :-P |

No James, its BRIAN BLESSED! "I got I, Clavdivs on DVD." Enjoy! I remember it being on TV, though a lot of it was probably not really meant for my eleven year old eyes |

I assume you mean that bit with Caligula and his sister. :-P

It does stick in the mind rather (a brilliantly mad turn from John Hurt), as does the amount of naked flesh on show throughout... Watching the new DVD version of The War Games last week, in particular the extras, there was a feature on regeneration, and it was commented that JNT was probably influenced on the 4th and 5th Doctors regen flashbacks by the trick at the end of I, Claudius where members of the cast 'speak' to Claudius as he is close to death. I suppose if you're going to steal, steal from something good! |

I, Claudius is bloody top-class television. Also, of course, fun to spot Dr Who cast members, not to mention Star Trek in some cases...
I think the most horrifying scene I can recall offhand is when you see Sejanus' dead body on the ? steps. |
|||
MsWho |
|||

As horrifying as the overt scenes are with that show, it's the more subtle stuff that sticks with you: i.e. the
(implied) rape and murder of Sejanus' young children.
And you're right about the Star Trek connection: John Rhys-Davies, who played Macro, also appeared in Star Trek: Voyager on a few occasions. I'm sure there are others, too. ;-P |
